Our story

We’re Bicyclenation — an independent cycling company in London, passionate about building a thriving and inclusive cycling culture. We believe cycling should be a natural part of everyday life: getting to work, getting around the city, and supporting your wellbeing.

Our mission is simple: help more people ride, keep bikes in great condition, and create places where cycling thrives. We concentrate on customer service and practical advice, helping you meet your cycling needs no matter where you’re starting from.

Our passionate, highly-trained team operates around London, bringing quality and openness to support each individual’s journey.

How it started

Back in 2012, Bicyclenation started with a simple idea: help more people ride — and keep their bikes running properly. We began as a fully mobile Collect & Return service, working from a small unit near Burgess Park.

The market

Word spread quickly and before long we were servicing more and more London cyclists. We took up a stall at North Cross Road Market, and every week you can find us at East Dulwich Market doing what we do best: quick, careful servicing and straightforward advice. Thanks to our repeat customers, we’ve never missed a Saturday market — come rain or shine.

Finding our home in Herne Hill

As the team and the workload grew, we needed a proper home. We moved into our Herne Hill shop in January 2020.

During lockdown, demand for servicing shot up. To keep up, we took on an arch under the railway behind the shop, then later moved into a larger arch a few doors down to give us more space (and a much better workflow). It’s where a big chunk of the spanner work happens today.

Battersea, our new store

We’ve since opened a second shop in Battersea — a big milestone for us, and great news for riders in that part of town. Our aim is the same as ever: friendly, professional help that keeps you riding.

We’ve taken over a much-loved local shop that many riders will know as Phoenix Cycles, with a long history of looking after Brompton riders. Brompton has always been part of our DNA, and it’s a major focus here.

Alongside Brompton, Battersea is also a key home for two other brands we really believe in: Tern and Gazelle. And just like our other locations, you don’t need to ride a specific brand to come in — if you’ve got a bike, you’re welcome.

Online store

While bicycle servicing is at the heart of what we do, we’ve also helped thousands of riders find the right bike from brands we love — including Brompton, Tern, Gazelle, Ridgeback and Woom.

We know most people start their search online now, so we’ve built our website to be more than “just another bike shop online”. It’s designed to make choosing a bike feel clear and straightforward, with well-structured information — the same way we explain things in the shop.

The aim is to help you feel confident about your choice and give you a solid base for any follow-up questions. If you want to talk it through, give us a ring or pop into one of our shops — we’re happy to help.

We’ll keep adding practical guides, specs and advice on the bikes and accessories we stock, so you can answer the big early questions and narrow down the right options before you visit us or book in.
